 8 of My Favorite Instagram Features

One thing I love about Instagram, is the new cool features the app rolls out almost weekly. These features are created to make the app more convenient, fun, responsive and safe for users. Here are some of my favorite Instagram features both old and new. 

1. Quick Send

Previously if you wanted to send a post, you would have to click the send icon, wait for accounts to show up, then you click on the account you want to send it to and click done. But now all you have to do is hold the send icon for a second. Four of your frequently contacted accounts will pop up and then you can slide your finger to the account you want to send it to. This process is much faster, more efficient and of course, cooler.

2. Video Edits

Who needs inShot and Lomotif when you have Instagram? Instagram has its own built in video editing software. Complete with visual effects, trending sounds, cutting and clipping of videos, sound management etc. Instagram has created a new way to make content creation easier for creators while keeping them on the platform for as long as possible.

3. Templates

Have you seen videos that made you think "whoever edited this is a wizard ". Well, you can now create yours. Best part is that you don't need to know how to. All you need to do is click in the "use template" option in the video. Then upload pictures and/or videos as needed and your uploads will automatically edit and arrange themselves. No more sweating on capcut just use this feature and you'll be creating pro level videos in less than 3 minutes. 

4. Guides 

Guides are collections grouped together and set up by users. Guides on Instagram are like playlists on YouTube. The difference is that they are public only. Arranging posts in guides helps viewers navigate through your profile. You can group your posts into any category you please. Guides show up in a section of your profile just like reels, tags, and videos. 

5. Categorized Saves

This works like guides. The difference is that while guides are public, your saved posts are private. So instead of filling your gallery with screenshots of shoes that you're not buying anytime soon, you can save those posts on the Instagram app. And not just save it, save it under a category so it's easy for you to find when you need it. 

6. Following and Favourites

Do you feel like you keep missing posts from your favourite content creators? Well good news for you.

The following and favourite features allow you to exclusively see post from the people you follow or from your favourite people. This gives you the chance to catch up with posts that the algorithm didn't push up to you.

7. Disappearing Messages

Have you ever wanted to have a very private discussion online but you decided not to due to fear of your texts being seen by the wrong eyes ? If yes then this feature would come in handy. To turn on this feature, open the chat of the person you want to discuss with and swipe up. Then you're free to have all your discussions. To turn it off, simply swipe up again and all your discussions during the vanishing mode would disappear.

8. Avatars

Lastly, Avatars. Avatars are virtual representations of your physical self online. It is the first step towards the meta verse as we would all need digital profiles to connect with each other and hang out in the meta verse (metaverse is a visual reality platform that's being built by Facebook). You can customise your Avatar to look however you want it and wear whatever you want it to. Avatars are fun and can be used to express oneself on stories or in the DMs.
