TAKING THE LEAD (2)

The Making of a Leader (Self-leadership)

Taking the lead gloryzone church

Hello, and how are you doing? It is no news anymore that the rainy season is yet to end for the year, with another shower this morning. I hope this didn't stop you from going to church though, it shouldn't.

At Gloryzone Church, it was a powerful Sunday, with two amazing services. Dr Karis is back, and you could feel the fire. Last week, the series for the month, tagged Taking the Lead was started by Pastor Peter Emmanuel and if you missed it, go read it and pick valuable revelations from it.

This Sunday, the teaching was on self-leadership and it is a must-read for everyone who seeks to improve in developing leadership skills. A few things before we go into the teaching:

First, The Outpouring 2022 is here. If you were in church today, you already know when in November it would hold. If you weren't in church, stay tuned and check this space next week, you would get more details.

Second, the BAF to Church campaign is still on and this means that in addition to reading this post if you don’t have a church you belong to where you are effectively growing, you are invited to visit and be a member of Gloryzone Church. We would love to have you present, especially if you are in the beautiful city of Jos.

Finally, WAVES, a worship and music concert organised by Gloryzone Music, would hold on the 3rd of October, 2022. More details in the flyer.

So, having said all that, let's go to the Making of a Leader and hear what Dr Karis had to say:

Everything we need is in Christ. The church is the ground and pillar of truth because we're the custodians of God's light. The anchor scripture for the day was Proverbs 6:6 - 11.

When there is leadership, there is order and order brings an increase

Where there is no leadership, there is waste. Every time God wants to lift a people (family), He raises a leader; when He wants to help you, He makes you a better leader.

The Bible is full of leadership mandates, from Adam to Noah, even to Abraham down to the disciples at the Great Commission.

Leadership is the ability to influence yourself and others to achieve a worthwhile goal.

You've not taken a sphere until the people reflect your values and culture

Your greatest leadership challenge is leading yourself. God is more focused on making a man than on giving to him. If the man can grow, the results will flow.

Your greatest leadership challenge is leading yourself

Self-leadership is the practice of deliberately and intentionally influencing your thoughts, feelings and behaviour to achieve your objectives.

The things you really need in life are connected to the things that are within your control

Some of the things you can control are:

  1.  Your thoughts
  2.  Your attitude
  3.  Your feelings (emotions)
  4.  Your words

Case studies for the teaching are the lives of David and Saul

David was a self-led person. He knew what to do and did them without being told (1 Samuel 17:34). He didn't wait to be told to go after the lion when it took the lamb. He also went after the bear. When he sinned and was confronted, he accepted his sin.

Self-led people don't give excuses, they produce results

Saul lacked self-leadership, unlike David. He often waited to be told what to do (1 Samuel 9:3-5), and he was focused on pleasing the people. He didn't own up to his sins but asked to be covered up by Samuel.

Self-led people own up to their mistakes, they take responsibility, repent and move forward quickly.

If you can take responsibility when no one is watching, you'd be rewarded when everyone is watching.

The four pillars of self-leadership are:

1. Self-awareness (discovery)

See who you are in Christ Jesus. Find your new identity and stick with it. Don't let your background shape your future

2. Self-acceptance

Understand where you are coming from and deal with it.

3. Self-discipline (management)

Discipline is the ability to do what is demanded, not what is convenient. You have to train your mind to think the thoughts you think.

4. Self-development

Find ways to grow and build yourself up. Read books, take paid courses, and also give yourself to prayer and study of the Word etc

Here's our stop for today, I'm sure you've received powerful revelations from this post. Catch the rest of it on the social media platforms of Gloryzone Church.

We continue our series on Dealing with Negative Emotions tomorrow.

See you then!

Blessings!
