 How Creators Get Paid From Social Media Platforms

Everyone knows that one girl that won't let the sun rest. Small sunlight like this and she has whipped out her iPhone X to take pictures. This may seem vain to a lot of people, but believe it or not that girl has a goal and the goal is monetisation. 

Yes! People actually get paid millions in both naira and dollars to post pictures/videos. How else do you think your favorite creators get money to live their fancy lifestyles? Still don't believe me ? Don't worry, I'll show you exactly how top social media platforms pay creators and how they get paid.

1. YouTube

YouTube has a method of paying creatives called YouTube partner program. This is how they reward creators for the content they put on the platform. This social media platform  pays 55% of revenue generated to creators and keep 45% for themselves. 

Top stars in this program make about 20 million dollars every year. To qualify for this for this program you have to have up to 1000 subscribers and up to 4000 hours watch time in a period of 12 months.

2. Facebook and Instagram

Facebook is a bit tight fisted when it comes to rewarding creators but you can get paid when Facebook show ads on your videos. That feature however is restricted as it's only available to people in certain locations and with a certain amount of following. 

However, Instagram allows creators to be gifted badges in their lives. These badges can be converted to money, and those who gift it usually have little hearts close to their usernames so that others can see how much support they have given the creator. Creators can also turn on subscriptions to get regular payments from fans. The fans who subscribe get access to special content and features that others don't get to enjoy. The app also has plans for new monetisation features such as introducing NFTs, Affiliate commerce (which allows creators get percentage of any sales from their platform directly on Instagram) and branded creators marketplace where brands can easily find influencers tailored to their needs and interest.

3. Twitter

Twitter has a program similar to that of YouTube called Amplify Publisher Program. This pays big creators periodically based on their content and how it performs. Twitter creators can also get money from Twitter by enabling the tip jar (to allow fans send them money on the app), super follows which is kind of like subscriptions on Instagram, and also by selling ticketed spaces while hosting an event on Twitter.

4. TikTok

TikTok also has a creators fund that regularly rewards creators on the platform. You have to register to join in, but once that's done the creator is entitled to periodic financial compensation. How much and how often they get paid through this depends on the platform and their terms and conditions. In addition to that, fans can send their favourite creators gifts which can later be converted into cash. 

5. Snapchat

Snapchat pays users through it's spotlight program. Like I said in my other post, Snapchat pledged 1 billion dollars to content creators and was steadily paying out about 1 million dollars every day until recently. The con of this feature is that payment is starting to decline and creators are complaining about this. However the platform is still dedicated to rewarding creators and it's still doing that till date even though the amount may have changed a bit. 


Did you notice I didn't include brand sponsorship which is commonly known as influencing, selling merch, ambassadorial deals etc ? 

That's because I wanted to show you that even without the billions that they earn yearly through brand deals and line promotions, people still earn regularly and big on social media.
